The Veterans Administration is an $150 billion agency with 312,000 employees. The VA runs 171 hospitals, 126 nursing homes, and 700 outpatient clinics. Rumors or horrible care have circulated for years.
In early 2014 CNN began a series of stories based on whistleblower testimony that revealed 40 Phoenix veterans had died while waiting for appointments. Phoenis VA administrators tampered with waiting list records in order to defraud government oversight.
Further investigation revealed a nationwide problem as hundreds of whistleblowers began coming forward with their stories of criminal records tampering and poor care.
As veterans continue to die, the VA has responded by denying, covering up, and now retaliating against whistleblowers.
